A new report ranks New York last in the country in terms of taxation. The story comes to our news partners at the Rochester Business Journal.

The report from the social media website, WalletHub, analyzed tax rates in 10 key areas. Researchers found New York’s average annual state and local taxes amounted to more than $9,700, 40 percent higher than the national average.

The report also found New York has the second highest gasoline tax and the third highest local income tax rate. New York also has higher rates than most when it comes to both sales and alcohol taxes.
