Boston’s former mayor, Thomas Menino, visited Rochester Wednesday as part of the Reshaping Rochester Series.
Menino was Boston’s longest serving mayor. He’s known as the urban mechanic for his work to help make Boston a thriving city.
News10NBC asked him about how Rochester could be the same. He says the key is to be involved in the neighborhoods and sometimes doing unpopular work. Menino says Rochester has a lot to offer but we have to work on telling our story.
Thomas Menino, former Boston mayor, said, "Rochester is a viable city. It can work, but you have to sell its attributes, but I don't think they do a good enough job of selling strong attributes. You have nice neighborhoods, some great architecture. I notice how clean the streets are."
Menino also spoke about the Boston Marathon that's coming up next month. It will be one year since the terrorist bombings there. He says it’s a family event that will continue, saying the key is to help make people feel safe without it being “military style”.
