Statins and heart health

Have you or a loved one talked to a doctor about taking cholesterol-lowering statins to protect your heart?

Experts say new heart disease prevention guidelines suggest millions more Americans should be taking them.

Under the new guidelines experts say almost half of all Americans between 40 and 75 years old qualify to consider taking statins. All men over 60 also qualify.

Critics say the guidelines are a bit extreme by suggesting medication for a large group of the population.

As always, it is best to take your questions about your health to your doctor.
