Jeff Tyzik is kicking off a milestone anniversary Friday. The Grammy award-winning RPO Pops conductor will take the stage with some very good friends, who are helping him celebrate 20 years as maestro.
With 500 concerts behind him, the 62-year-old Tyzik has no plans to step down from the podium and hang up his baton. He says he is grateful for the opportunity to work all these years with the musicians in the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra. He says the anniversary concerts will be an once in a lifetime event.
Helping him celebrate will be some of his closest friends including trumpeter Allen Vizzutti, trombonist Jim Pugh and Doc Severinsen of “The Tonight Show”.
Tyzik said, “Doc and I have been really good friends since 1978. Only one other time have Doc, Allen and I been on stage together. This will probably be the last time that happens. So you’re not going to see that again.”
The concerts will be Friday and Saturday at Kodak Hall at Eastman Theatre at 8:00 p.m.
