Wegmans is suing a former contractor it hired to manage workers' compensation cases.
According to our news partners at the Rochester Business Journal, Wegmans claims that the contractor, CorVel Healthcare Corp, charged at least $450,000 in authorized fees over a seven year period. The lawsuit was filed on February 12 in New York State Supreme Court in Monroe County and was moved to U.S. District Court in Rochester last week at the request of defendant CorVel.
Wegmans hired CorVel in 2002 to do case management of workers' comp claimants and utilization review. Wegmans terminated its agreement with the California firm in 2013.
An attorney for CorVel did not respond to RBJ's request for comment.
