A Livonia man is facing DWI charges under Leandra’s law after sheriff’s deputies say he was driving drunk with his wife and two children in his car.
Lawrence R. Hapke, 50, of Livonia, is charged with felony DWI, misdemeanor DWI, endangering the welfare of a child, aggravated unlicensed operation, drinking alcohol in a motor vehicle on a highway and failing to dim high beams.
Sheriff’s deputies say Hapke was traveling on Federal Road in Livonia when he failed to dim his car’s high beams. Following a roadside DWI investigation, sheriff’s deputies discovered that Hapke’s wife, 14-year-old and 17-year-old children were inside the vehicle. Sheriff’s deputies also found open containers of alcoholic beverages inside.
Hapke refused a breath test. He was arraigned in Lima Town Court and sent to the Livingston County Jail on $5,000 cash bail.
