Breast Cancer Coalition announces two $50,000 research grants

A hundred thousand dollars will be going toward breast cancer research here in western New York. On Tuesday, the Breast Cancer Coalition of Rochester announced two $50,000 research grants, aimed at focusing on breast cancer cause, prevention and cure.

The two $50,000 grants were awarded to Roswell Park Cancer Institute in Buffalo and the University of Rochester Medical Center.

Helene McMurray, University of Rochester, Wilmot Cancer Center, said, “It is absolutely wonderful to receive this money this morning. It's going to help us tremendously at a time when all scientists are fighting for their scientific lives.”

The Breast Cancer Coalition of Rochester has given more than $480,000 to area researchers since 2003.
