A Penn Yan man is facing charges after police say he stole more than $30,000 from the Penn Yan Youth Lacrosse League.
Police say Jarrod D. Strong, 41, of Penn Yan had taken funds from the league for his own use. Police say Strong, who is the President of the Penn Yan Youth Lacrosse, stole $38,000 from December 2012 to November 2013.
Police say when Strong was the president there was no treasurer, so no one was double checking the accounts. Investigators say Strong was writing checks from the league's bank account and cashing them. Police say Strong did admit to taking the money, but didn't say what he used it for.
The Penn Yan Elementary School says there is a meeting tonight for parents, kids and coaches to talk about the upcoming season and the charges. The league did release a statement saying they will go on with the season as planned.
Strong was arraigned in Penn Yan Village Court. He’s due back in court at a later date.
