It has been as trying a week for the Buffalo Bills family. Owner Ralph Wilson died on Tuesday and Wednesday, Jim Kelly’s wife, Jill, posted on Facebook that her husband will not have surgery for his spreading jaw cancer due to its aggressiveness.
Jill wrote in part, “At this point, Jim will not be having surgery. The cancer is in areas that surgery cannot successfully eradicate. Therefore, the medical specialists here in NYC along with our Buffalo team believe that chemotherapy and radiation are the best option."
Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City says Kelly's condition "remains very treatable and potentially curable."
Kelly was initially scheduled to have surgery on Thursday in New York City for cancer recurrence in his jaw after it started spread to other parts of his body. Two weeks ago, doctors at the Erie County Medical Center found that Kelly’s cancer had returned and at that time surgery would be the best option.
The Bills Hall of Fame quarterback was first diagnosed with jaw cancer last July. After having part of his jaw and some teeth removed, he was deemed cancer free two weeks later.
The Kelly’s asked everyone to keep them in their thoughts.
