The Orleans County Sheriff’s Office tells News10NBC that its retired canine deputy has died. They say “Cliff” has been in declining health for a few months and died on March 7.

“Cliff” was a 15-year old German shepherd. The sheriff's office got him in 2002 from Czechoslovakia. He was assigned to his handler, Lieutenant Christopher Bourke.

"Cliff" served Orleans County for nine years until his retirement in 2011.
