Thousands of trout to be released into Irondequoit Creek

Staff and volunteers from the Fish Hatchery at Powder Mills Park will release more than 16,000 brown and rainbow trout into the Irondequoit Creek beginning at 8 a.m. Monday.

The 11th annual event is in preparation of the "Reidman Foundation Opening Day Trout Derby,” which benefits the Fish Hatchery at Powder Mills Park. The derby also marks the first day of trout season for area fisherman. Several prizes will be awarded to fisherman in various age categories, including a $500 prize.

The derby starts at 7 a.m. Tuesday and runs until 12 p.m.. Application can be downloaded here.
