The trout derby was held on Irondequoit Creek in Powder Mills Park Tuesday morning but fishermen tell us the fish weren’t biting.

Today is the first day of trout season and usually the creek is well stocked but experts say because of all the snow this winter, the water level is high, running fast and is very muddy so the trout aren't seeing the hooks.

One fisherman we spoke to said he was having trouble keeping his grandson interested. Thomas Axx said, “The young one likes a little more activity when you're pulling in one fish after another and this is a little hard for them to sit here with the patience and so you have to kind of nurture them along a little bit."

The trout derby started at 7 a.m.
