Last federal lawsuit for Flight 3407 heads to court

Created: 04/02/2014 2:44 AM WHEC.com

All but one federal lawsuit filed after the crash of Continental Flight 3407 that killed 50 people have now been settled.

Lawyers in the remaining case are due in federal court in Buffalo Wednesday morning. A status conference on all of the cases is scheduled a little later.

If the final case settles, there will be no need for the scheduled May 28 federal trial.

However, three cases remain pending in state court, and one or all of those could progress to trial.

The Newark, New Jersey-to-Buffalo flight stalled and crashed into a house in Clarence in a 2009 accident investigators blamed on pilot error. The passengers' families are suing the airlines involved: Continental, along with Pinnacle Airlines and former subsidiary Colgan Air, the regional carrier that operated the flight.
