Helping to raise awareness for the victims of crimes in Monroe County and defending their rights is the goal of a week-long initiative.
Officials gathered on Thursday to announce this year’s Crime Victims’ Rights Week. This year’s theme is “30 Years: Restoring the Balance of Justice.” The theme celebrates how far we’ve come in aiding the voice of victims over the last 30 years.
Organizers stressed how important this week is combating crime.
Bob Burns, Director of Probation in Monroe County, said, “Crime is a problem that has no boundaries. It affects all segments of our society and all areas of Monroe County. In fact, most of Monroe County's efforts to improve home values, as well as to create and retain jobs, mean nothing if we do not fight the presence of crime in our community.”
Crime Victims’ Rights Week starts this Sunday and runs through next Saturday.
