Our partners at the Messenger Post report some 12-million households nationwide now pay more than 50 percent of their annual incomes for housing according the federal government.

Families paying more than 30-percent of their income for housing are considered "cost burdened." That means they may also have trouble affording necessities like food, clothing, and medical care.
Messenger Post Senior Reporter Julie Sherwood examines this trend in a two-part Messenger exclusive. She talks with a family in Ontario County where 44 percent of renters fall into that "cost burdened" category.
