Nineteen thousand dollars is the new estimate of how much childhood obesity costs per child.

Researchers at the Duke Global Health Institute added up the predicted medical costs, like doctor visits and medication to get that number. About one in five children in the U.S. are obese.

Obesity raises the risk for conditions like heart disease, Type 2 Diabetes, and stroke.
