Residents in Gates and Chili say they woke up Sunday morning to notice their license plates had been ripped off their cars.
Resident Martha Evans says, "I don't know what they're going to do with all those plates. There's a hundred plates missing."
Gates police tell News10NBC about 100 plates have been stolen. Police say most of the thefts happened overnight at different apartment complexes and streets off Lyell Avenue/Spencerport Road. Some of those victims we heard from are elderly - living at a senior living complex.
We received numerous calls and emails Sunday from residents in both Gates and Chili - saying their license plates were stolen off their cars. Victims included the parking lot at the North Hampton Park Apartment complex on Spencerport Road. One of the residents there contacted us - after they say dozens of cars had their license plates ripped off.
Martha Evans lives at that apartment complex. She says this morning she was leaving for church when she noticed a piece of her license plate holder broken - and on the ground. She tells us she can't believe how many people were victimized.
Evans says, "I don't know what they're going to do with all those plates. There's a hundred plates missing. A lot of people in this complex missing plates."
"I think they're going to take them, put them on stolen cars and drive around with them."
Evans says she filed a police report and police say they are looking hard to find the suspects. They tell us they're not sure why the plates were taken. They're urging residents to contact police if they see anyone suspicious near their car to call police.
