Senator Chuck Schumer will be at Fairport High School on Tuesday at 2 p.m. to discuss a dramatic drop in federal funding for programs aimed at keeping kids safe in school.

Schumer says losing funds for anti-violence programs has left local schools without options and unable to implement new security measures to prevent school violence, like the attacks at Sandy Hook Elementary. Schumer will call on the Department of Education to make those funds available again. Fairport High School is looking for ways to install new security measures, like a single point of entry, while other school districts are looking to install security cameras. The superintendents of the Fairport and Brighton school districts, local law enforcement, and county officials will be at Tuesday's event.
