The only way your property taxes are going to decrease significantly is through mandate reform. That means changing the rules the state imposes on you and your local government.

That's the prevailing thought at a news conference Tuesday hosted by State Senator Ted O’Brien. He was joined by Brian Sampson of Unshackle Upstate and Sandy Parker of the Rochester Business Alliance. O'Brien has a mandate relief bill that he's trying to get passed this year.

Senator Ted O'Brien said, “I will continue to champion that cause, push the bill that I've introduced in the legislature to have us get serious about unfunded mandates.”

Ted O’Brien is running for re-election to the Senate. His district covers most of the east side towns in Monroe County and south into Ontario County. His challenger this year is former News10NBC anchor Rich Funke. Rich is running for the Republican Party.
