A local woman just finished the marathon when the bombing happened at the Boston Marathon one year ago today. She is going back to race again, as will another local runner who will take the streets of Boston for the first time.

They are two runners with two different perspectives. During the 2013 Boston Marathon, Kathleen Champange completed the race and Jeffrey Hanzlick was back in Rochester. Both will be at the starting line next Monday.

Kathleen will run her fourth Boston Marathon. The Brockport resident finished the race about 20 minutes before the first bomb went off and was a block away when it exploded. When the second bomb went off, she ran into a nearby building where she waited for five hours. Kathleen says she has no fear in running this year.

Jeffery Hanzlick expressed the similar feelings. He lives in Chili and has been running for eight years. This will be Jeffery’s first Boston Marathon. Last year's events are a major reason why he will run the 26 miles.

Kathleen Champange said, “So many people were so close and didn’t finish it. It’s going to be more runners and you have to have a lot of patience. If that is the only thing you have to worry about that day then I think we will be golden.”

Jeffrey Hanzlick said, “I had not qualified last year. That strengthens my resolve to want to be a part of this year’s event.”

Kathleen and Jeffrey are two of several runners that News10NBC will highlight. News10NBC’s Justin Granit will be at the Boston Marathon beginning Sunday to bring you more of Rochester’s stories from Boston.
