The western New York soldier injured during the mass shooting at Fort Hood is out of the hospital. Major Patrick Miller was shot in the stomach as a gunman opened fire at the Army base earlier this month.
Reports say Miller says other soldiers’ lives, huddling them behind a door for protection after he had been shot.
News10NBC’s affiliate in Buffalo spoke with Miller after he was released from the hospital Tuesday.
Miller said, "Just overwhelmed and very, very humbled just by the graciousness. You go in the Army and move away to different places, and then over time you, at least me; you become more proud every day, more proud of where you come from.”
Miller grew up in Cattaraugus County and attended both St. Bonaventure and Syracuse. Doctors say he's expected to make a full recovery.
