With the economy still up and down, consumers are looking for ways to save money, especially at the grocery store. One of the best ways is coupons.
According to Consumer Reports, in 2013, manufacturers distributed 315 billion coupons for a long list of items such as paper towels, cereal and detergent. That's an average of 1,000 coupons for every person in the United States.
However, only 2.8 percent of those were actually redeemed.
Experts say the time spent clipping coupons is worth the effort. The average value of a coupon has increased in the past year to almost 6 percent to 1.62.
