Spencerport teachers calling for test changes

Created: 04/17/2014 8:39 PM WHEC.com

More than 60 teachers in Spencerport are calling for major changes to the new Common Core learning standards.

The teachers at Cosgrove Middle School have signed a petition, specifically taking issue with this year's third through eighth grade ELA and math tests, calling them "a waste of time and money", adding that they traumatize students and create unnecessary stress in their lives.

The petition was sent to New York State Education Commissioner John King and Governor Andrew Cuomo, calling on them to get rid of the exams or be held accountable for their quality by releasing them to the public for scrutiny.
