Ontario County Sheriff’s Deputies are looking for a man who had what appeared to be a gun inside the College Suites on the Finger Lakes Community College late Thursday night.

The director of security at FLCC tells News10NBC he received the information about the incident and sent out a text and call alert. Students then took to social media to talk about the event. Some criticized the alert being send out, saying it is a college holiday and they aren't on campus. To that college officials say when it comes to safety matters, they would rather be safe than sorry.

FLCC officials are also being critiqued for the time delay. The person was seen around 9 p.m. or 10 p.m. and the alert didn’t go out until around 1 a.m. Officials say the reason for that is because the student didn't call police until around midnight.

Right now, deputies are looking for a white male wearing a red winter-style cap and a grey sweatshirt. Anyone with information is asked to call 911.
