If you're planning for your next vacation or a summer get-a-way, there are new warnings about travel scams that you should be aware of.

The Better Business Bureau says scammers are taking advantage of the after-effects of this year's harsh winter weather by targeting the higher number of travelers from upstate New York who are looking to escape to warmer spots.

The BBB says you should be on the lookout for things like direct-mail offers for cruises and it's warns be wary of offers for free trips.

Make sure you get a solid confirmation from the hotel or airline when you book a room or flight.
