The harsh winter has had a major impact on Finger Lakes grape vines. Researchers are finding a wide range of damage to the buds. They say the number of grapes produced this year will likely be significantly lower.
According to our news partners at the Messenger Post, the buds that were examined came from 20 different sites.
Researchers say some varieties like pinot noir ranged anywhere from 18-percent to 100-percent damaged, depending on where the vineyard was located
The Messenger Post says another factor that is still being looked at is how the trunks of the vines were damaged which also affects the crop.
