Monroe County Democratic Party Chairman Joe Morelle will not seek another term as chairman so that he can focus on his role as majority leader of the New York State Assembly.

Morelle says the rigors of his multiple duties will eventually cause him to make compromises he doesn't want to make. He held a press conference Tuesday to shed more light on his decision and to talk more about his future in politics.

Joe Morelle, Monroe County Democratic Chairman, said, “This has not been an easy decision to make. It has been one of the high honors of my life to lead the Monroe County democrats. I’ve loved every minute and I still feel the same energy and passion for the job today that I did when I assumed the duties nine years ago, but duty calls and I must answer it."

Morelle was first elected as chairman in 2005.
