Netflix announced it will soon be raising its monthly subscription prices. The company said it will hike prices sometime before July by $1 or $2 a month for new customers only.

Existing subscribers will continue to pay the current fee of $8 a month for at least the next year. Netflix said the price hike is needed to maintain the quality of original series such as “House of Cards.”

It will be the first fee increase in three years. Netflix currently has 36 million subscribers.
