Have you seen the New York State Lottery commercials with the kids singing the song, “Thank you for being a friend”, the song made famous by the “Golden Girls” TV show?

Students at the School of the Arts did their own rendition of it. Now they are the winners of a $5,000 prize from the New York Lottery. The students celebrated their award by singing the song again during Wednesday’s award presentation.

The money will go toward renovating the School of the Arts Piano Lab. Students say they loved participating in the contest.

Gabriella Sarango, SOTA senior, said, “We were just really happy to hear about it and we couldn't wait to start practicing for something like this.”
