A Phelps couple is facing charges after sheriff's deputies say they abandoned four animals.

Justin Zaso, 22, and Christine Zaso, 30, of Phelps, are charged with animal abandonment.

The Ontario County Humane Society was called to a home on Melvin Hill Road in Phelps on April 16. The complaint involved two dogs and two cats who were left behind at the home. The Ontario County Sheriff’s Office says their owners, Mr. & Mrs. Zaso  had been evicted from the home.

Sheriff’s deputies found the Zasos at the Red Carpet Inn in Phelps on April 22. They will appear in Phelps Town Court at a later date.

The animals have been seized and are being cared for the Ontario County Humane Society.
