Andrey Makarov was the Amerks fourth option at goalie. He is now the team’s first and a major reason why Rochester will begin the playoffs Friday night when Chicago comes to town.
Makarov played in the East Coast Hockey League for most of the season, but with injuries and call ups to the Sabres, Rochester had nowhere else to turn other than the 21-year-old rookie from Russia.
Makarov won seven straight games down the stretch and rides that momentum into the chase for the Calder Cup.
Chadd Cassidy, Amerks Coach, said, “Hopefully, we can get that effort from Mackie more important is we don't want to put too much pressure on him and make sure we are taking care of the game that way the easier we make it on him the better chances we have and when we need a save he is going to make it for us.”
Games one and two between the Amerks and Wolves are on Friday and Saturday.
