A 22-year-old Rochester man has pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in the death of a Rochester teen.
The Monroe County District Attorney’s Office tells us on July 1, 2012, Chonice Stewart confronted 16-year-old Raven Cooper in front of a home on Bay Street and shot him in the stomach before leaving the scene.
Prosecutor Pat Farrell said, "In July of 2012, Chonice Stewart chose to take the life of a young member of our community over nothing more than his wounded pride. Sadly, acts of senseless violence like the one that claimed Raven Cooper have claimed numerous lives since. I hope that this young man's death, and the fate of his killer, give someone who might be involved in a similar dispute pause before resorting to an act of murder."
Stewart will be sentenced to 15 years in life when he appears in court on June 10.
