There’s talk of a possible casino coming to Greece. A representative for the Pyramid Brokerage, out of Syracuse, tells News10NBC that a former shipyard could become a gambling destination.
The former shipyard is on 66 acres off Dewey Avenue and Ling Road near the Lake Ontario State Parkway. A number of things could go there including retail, office complex and a casino.
During World War II, the 240,000 square foot building housed a Navy shipyard. Rochesterians went to work building ships inside. It sits on 66 acres. Now the renderings of retail space from Pyramid Brokerage show what it could become. Pyramid points out these are conceptual drawings, not etched in stone.
News10NBC spoke with Christopher Westfall by phone. He says a big box anchored retail facility would make a lot of sense, an outdoor sporting goods store would make a lot of sense and it could be a destination as a casino.
They have been talking with various casino operators. Westfall won't name them. This started when they found out Henrietta and Gates were being discussed as possible casino sites.
Christopher Westfall, Pyramid Brokerage, said, “When I found out they were still looking, it made an awful lot of sense. It is a location on the lake; it's an attractive site physically. You can incorporate water features to the casino and we could make it very attractive.”
Westfall says they have talked with Greece town officials about the possibility of retail moving in and they were very much in favor of that, but they have not had a chance to discuss a casino.
Meanwhile, they are moving forward to ready the site for whatever project is settled on, retail or casino. Demolition of the old shipyard could begin in the next month or so.
