Many attorneys say they get at least one call every day from women concerning a potential sexual harassment case. A local attorney says sexual harassment is on the rise in Rochester. News10NBC sat down with one woman who says she just recently escaped it.
The trauma of sexual harassment is what one woman says she suffered from every day at work. She doesn't want her identity revealed because she's now battling her former boss and alleged harasser in court.
“I had been there four and a half years and it started with just minor joking and minor remarks about my appearance and my dress.”
But then she says it grew to sexual remarks and even touching.
“Every morning, I would be sitting at my desk and he would come up from behind me and kiss me on my head or rub my shoulders. There have been a couple instances where he would try to kiss me on my mouth and I would have to turn my head to avoid it.”
Michelle Cimino is her attorney. She says cases of sexual harassment at work are escalating at an alarming rate. She gets calls every day.
Michelle Cimino, attorney, said, “It's happening in all different size companies, small, medium, large. People are afraid to report it.”
“It took up a lot of courage to come forward in fear of not being able to have any income coming in, because I am a single mom.”
She left her job a few months ago and is still looking for work. The woman says she wants to send a message to anyone who is being sexual harassed at work that there is a way out and it starts with speaking up and making your concerns heard.
News10NBC got a copy of the lawsuit. We reached out to the owner of the company she's taking to court. The owner says he's denying the allegations.
