New York’s official state fruit is the apple. The state animal is the beaver. Now, yogurt could become New York’s official state snack.

New York State Senator Michael Ranzenhofer says a committee approved the bill that would make yogurt the number one snack. Yogurt is already one of New York’s most popular exports.

The request comes from fourth graders at Byron Bergen Elementary School. Senator Ranzenhofer says the bill could become law before the year is over.
