Firefighters were called out to the scene of two separate fires at a house on Post Avenue early Saturday morning.

Officials say the first call came in around 4 a.m. for a fire on the second floor of the home on Post Avenue near Aberdeen Street. Crews say that fire was relatively small, and they were able to put it out fairly quickly.

However, hours later, just before 8 a.m., firefighters were back on scene at that same house. Firefighters say this blaze was even more intense -- this time on the second floor and attic. The second fire caused extensive damage to the roof -- which collapsed. Crews had to evacuate the house.

“The first crews had fire coming from the attic, and within five minutes the dormers started falling and the roof collapsed. We pulled everyone out and hit it from the outside,” said Battalion Chief Richard Yackel of the Rochester Fire Department.

Investigators say Saturday isn't the first or second time crews have responded to this residence for a fire. News10NBC is told there have been two other fires at that house in the past.

Investigators say the two fires aren’t linked, but they believe the second fire was set intentionally.
