Free Comic Book Day took place on Saturday.  It’s an event where participating comic book shops across North America, and around the world, give away comic books for free.

Andy Battaglia, owner of Comics Etc. at Main and Goodman Streets, says everyone loves a bit of fantasy and science fiction in their lives.

“Comics are huge these days.  Half the movies coming out of Hollywood are comic related,” said Battaglia.

The event takes place every year on the first Saturday in May, and anyone can grab a free comic book at participating book shops.

“My grandfather has a bunch of boxes of comic books that go all the way back to when he was a child. It’s been great,” said Dominick Wiely, a boy at the event.
