A vigil was held on Saturday for the man who was shot and killed on Lyell Avenue on Wednesday.
Investigators have charged 32-year-old Willie Bell with the murder of Alvin Metcalf Jr., a 29-year-old father of four, who was shot on his way to work. Police say there may have been an argument between the two before the shooting.
Today, Metcalf’s family and friends came together on North Street to call for an end to all the recent violence in Rochester.
Valencia Metcalf, the victim’s sister, says all the support from the community has been overwhelming. She says she will continue to keep fighting to keep her neighborhood safe.
“We do all of this, and then we bury the message until it happens again. We want to keep the message alive. We have to continue, and we have to teach these kids – 10, 12, 8 – keep teaching them that we can stop this,” said Valencia.
“My brother’s gone, and we can’t bring him back. I love you, Alvin. We can’t bring him back, but maybe we can work together and prevent your brother from being the next murder victim,” she said.
