A local child who’s fighting Leukemia for the second time decided to donate her hair to other’s battling cancer on Sunday.
Seven-year-old Avrie was first diagnosed with cancer three years ago. Doctors told her parents if the cancer didn’t come back in three years then their child had a good chance of surviving, but last month her cancer returned, and doctors say it’s worse than the first time.
Avrie’s family says she’s been afraid of her hair falling out, so her and her best friend Maddie got their hair cut together and donated it to Locks of Love to help another child.
“It’s very ironic because Avrie already lost her hair once, and no she knows what it’s like and how scary it can be. She wants to help other kids who might be scared in the future, so she’s donating her hair to make wigs for them,” said Kate Gramlich-Sinesiou, Avrie’s mother.
Avrie is at Golisano Children’s Hospital and will be in intensive treatment for the next six months. Her family has put together a Facebook page to help support their daughter. It’s called “Prayers for Avrie.” To see the page, click here.
