Livingston County sheriff's deputy loses battle with cancer

Sheriff’s deputies in Livingston County are mourning the loss of one of their own. Deputy Carrie Merrick passed away after a courageous battle with cancer.

Merrick was hired at the sheriff’s office in 2007 and was assigned to the Corrections Division.

Livingston County Sheriff Thomas Dougherty said, “Our hearts are heavy with the passing of our colleague and friend.  We are forever indebted and thankful to Deputy Merrick for her service and friendship. We ask that you all keep the Merrick and Sawdey families in your thoughts and prayers.”

Calling hours will be held on Wednesday from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Rector Hicks Funeral Home. Her funeral will be held at St. Mary’s Church in Geneseo on Thursday at 10 a.m.
