One witness said it was like something out of a video game. Police cars were flying down I-390 and stopped at an apartment complex in Henrietta. It caused quite the commotion. Drivers and people who live in the area were concerned.
It all started as an armed robbery on Driving Park Avenue near Dewey Avenue in Rochester. Police say a man with a gun stole someone's iPhone, then jumped into a car with two other men and took off. When police tried to stop the car, they wouldn’t pull over and led police all the way to Henrietta.
Justin Colby's mulching was interrupted by something dramatic.
Justin Colby, witness, said, “It was interesting, not something you see every day. “
What he saw was the end of a police pursuit.
Colby said, “It whipped around right through the parking lot with the cops following. They slammed on the brakes there and then the guys got out. One went this way and one went that way.”
Captain Ray Dearcop, Rochester Police, said, “They pulled into the parking lot here and we kind of had them boxed in. They really had nowhere to go, so they fled on foot.”
Police caught the trio and took them into custody. No one was hurt along 390 from Rochester to Henrietta. Investigators say this is another example of how important it is to stay alert while driving.
Captain Dearcop said, “I know it's very uncomfortable or unnerving for people when they see lights and sirens coming, but you want to yield the right away to the patrol officers, check your mirrors and move over to the side.”
Despite the entire stir, Colby felt police had it under control.
Colby said, “None of us felt not safe or anything like that. They took the guys down and we went about doing our normal thing.”
Police are not releasing the suspects’ names. Police are questioning both the suspects and the victims and they try to sort this whole thing out.
