The Victor lacrosse team will pay tribute to 2012 Victor graduate Alex Davis — found dead Sunday at the State University of New York at Geneseo — at one of his favorite places, the Victor lacrosse field. The public observance will take place at 7 p.m. Thursday at Victor High School on High Street.

Mr. Davis, a sophomore at SUNY Geneseo, was found dead Sunday night at an off-campus fraternity house, according to Geneseo police. Mr. Davis was a member of the Phi Sigma Xi house, but lived on campus in a dorm.

In a communication released Tuesday, Mr. Davis’ family stated that the public is invited to attend the Victor lacrosse game and observance, but “the calling hours and funeral for Alex will be for friends and family” only. Calling hours are planned in Victor on Wednesday and Thursday, with a funeral mass on Friday.

“Alex lived his life to the fullest, and reminded us every day to do the same,” stated Bob, Debbie and KJ Davis in a written communication. “He was a caring young man, not just at home but in the community. He showed this by volunteering in his church and with the Special Olympics.

“At Victor High School, Alex challenged himself athletically and academically every day,” the family stated. “He was a member of the National Honor Society, Boys State and International Model UN. He was on the varsity wrestling, lacrosse and football teams, and served as the wrestling captain his senior year.

According to the statement, Mr. Davis competed on the SUNY Geneseo lacrosse team. He was a biomedical major and hoped to become a physician.

“Despite all of these achievements, his largest accomplishment was being a loving and caring part of our family, and a loyal friend to his peers,” the statement said. “We will remember him for his kind and loving spirit and his sense of humor.”

Friends may call Wednesday and Thursday from 6 to 9 p.m. at Lucey-VanVoorhis Funeral Home, 301 W. Main St., Victor.

A funeral mass celebrating Mr. Davis' life will begin Friday at 10 a.m. at St. Patrick's Church, 115 Maple Ave., Victor.

A private interment will follow at St. Patrick's Cemetery. Gifts in memory of Mr. Davis may be directed to Victor American Legion, Post 931, PO Box 131, Victor, NY 14564.
