A mother, driving with her young child, was killed in a crash on the New York State Thruway Friday, according to the Manchester Fire Chief.
The crash happened in the westbound lanes near mile marker 343 in Farmington.
State Police say 31-year-old Deborah A. McDonald, of Rochester and her five-year-old daughter were headed eastbound, when for some reason; their car crossed the median, traveled into the westbound lanes and was hit by a tractor trailer. Part of the trailer rolled over onto the car.
McDonald was pronounced dead at the scene. The fire chief says the child, who was in a car seat in the back of the car, was taken to Strong Hospital with minor injuries.
The driver of the tractor trailer, a 45-year-old man from Rochester, was not injured or charged.
McDonald was an employee at Heritage Christian Services and worked in the East Rochester office. Marisa Geitner, president and C.E.O of Heritage Christian Services, released a statement saying, "It was an honor to serve with Deb and to witness her compassion for others. She inspired us all with her love for God and for her daughter. She will be missed.”
