News10NBC is learning new information on a Rochester teenager who police say was kidnapped and taken to Minnesota.
Right now, 14-year-old Amber Goolsby and her mother are at the airport in Minnesota. They were reunited Friday. They’re expected to arrive back in Rochester later Friday.
Investigators say Goolsby went missing on Monday. She was found two days later inside a trailer. Fifty three-year-old Michael Goerlich, of Minnesota, has been charged with kidnapping and false imprisonment. Investigators say Goolsby met the suspect online in a chat room.
Amber's mom made the 1,000 mile flight out to Minneapolis to bring her daughter home. After waiting since about 11:30 a.m. Friday, Amber's mom says she was able to reconnect with her daughter late Friday afternoon. They'll be flying back home to Rochester Friday evening.
Amber’s father is waiting anxiously to see his daughter. He says he hopes no family has to go through the pain his family has this last week. After learning that Amber met her alleged kidnapper online in a chat room, he says all parents should be aggressive in monitoring what their kids are doing at all times.
Al Goolsby, Amber’s father, said, “Don't be afraid to invade their privacy to know exactly what's going on. I just found out that my daughter went on a chat line. From my understanding that's where she met this gentleman and ended up in this situation.”
Amber's father says it's something all parents should do, especially now with young kids going online more. He says being alert and keeping close tabs on your kids could make all the difference in preventing a tragic situation like this from happening again.
Amber and her mom will be arriving at the Greater Rochester International Airport later Friday night.
