A man was rescued from the Genesee River Sunday morning after he fell off the Main Street Bridge, according to firefighters.

Firefighters were called to the Sister Cities Pedestrian Bridge at 7:45 a.m. for a report of a man who had fallen in the river. When they arrived, they found the man clinging to the wall below the bridge with only his head above water.

Firefighters say he fell into the river at the Main Street Bridge and was carried down the river to the Sister Cities Bridge where he was able to grab ahold of the wall.

The Swift Water Rescue Team lowered a ladder from the bridge into the water and a firefighter entered the water to help get the man out. He was removed safely and taken to the hospital via Rural/Metro.
