Thousands of people have been taking advantage of the great weather to head out to the Lilac Festival, but you may have noticed a few changes this year.

Organizers cracked down on security at this year’s festival, and all entry points are now staffed with security guards who also screen bags.

Another change is that pets are no longer allowed at the event.

“It’s not the best place. You can bring your dogs to other parts of the park. It’s really only the festival site, where we have the entertainment, food vendors and all the exhibitors, that the dogs are not welcome,” said Jeff Springut, producer of the Lilac Festival.

Festival-goers can also drink alcohol anywhere, instead of just the fenced-in areas like previous years.

“Last year we were designated to this one little area. We had to finish our drinks really fast and then go eat. Now it’s kind of nice because we can go wherever we want and do whatever we want,” said Nick Ruston, a resident enjoying the festivities.

The Lilac Festival continues through next Sunday.
