An elderly woman from Henrietta is in the hospital after police say she was hit by a drunk driver near the Lilac Festival Saturday night.

Rochester Police say the incident happened near the festival entrance on South Avenue. Investigators say the driver, 51-year-old David Dispirito of Greece, was seen driving erratically in the Vietnam Veterans Memorial entrance and then pulling into a small parking lot. According to police, when officers attempted to stop him, he tried to drive away and struck 94-year-old Helen Uffelman who was walking to her car.

Uffelman suffered a broken ankle. She is currently in guarded condition at Strong Memorial Hospital.

Dispirito is charged with DWI, resisting arrest and vehicular assault.
