A 47-year-old Cayuga County man was seriously injured in an explosion at his home. It happened Monday evening in the Town of Locke.

Sheriff’s deputies say 47-year-old Shawn Perreault was making methamphetamine when the process he was using exploded. Investigators say the explosion caused the mobile home and adjacent barn to catch fire. Both suffered significant damage.

Perreault was taken to the hospital by his wife and later airlifted to University Hospital with burns to more than 60-percent of his body. Two other adults and a four-year-old child were home at the time of the explosion but not injured.

Perreault is currently listed in stable condition. Deputies say the investigation is ongoing and charges are pending. Anyone with information about this case is asked to call deputies at 315-253-1132.
