Officials at Penn Yan CSD hope to re-open next week

Officials at the Penn Yan Central School District are hoping to re-open schools on Monday, May 19 following the devastating storm earlier this week.

In a letter to parents and families, Superintendent David Hamilton says the school buildings survived the storm mostly intact but the status of the grounds is not good. We are told the water from 364 and 14A fell into the creek that runs through the center of the school campus, causing damage. However, Hamilton says the school’s staff has worked around the clock to clear and clean up debris in the area.

Hamilton says the final decision to open will depend on the conditions of the roads and school officials are in touch with local authorities to make that determination.
