The Rochester Lilac Festival will not open today due to the saturated conditions in the park after a heavy rainfall overnight and all morning.

Tonight’s headliner, Willie Nile, will perform at Sticky Lips in Henrietta at 9:30 p.m.

“Protecting the condition of the park is always a top priority,” said Larry Staub, director of the Monroe County Department of Parks. “With saturated turf conditions, the daily festival activity, which includes deliveries, set-up, vehicle and foot traffic, would risk damage to the park grounds.”

The festival had already closed parking areas in Highland Park earlier this week after heavy rains Tuesday night and Wednesday morning made it impossible to park cars on the ground.
